With over 26 years of unwavering service in the Marion County Coroner’s Office, Alfie stands as a passionate leader and a compassionate advocate for families and our community's mental well-being.

A Legacy of Service: Alfie McGinty has been an integral part of the Marion County Coroner’s Office for over 26 years, rising through the ranks to become the Chief Deputy Coroner. In her 17 years as Chief Deputy Coroner, Alfie has overseen the agency's complex operations, managed multi-million-dollar agency budgets, and navigated over 5 million dollars in grant funds. Her commitment to staff excellence and fiscal responsibility ensures that resources are effectively allocated to support the vital work and mission of the Marion County Coroner’s Office.

Leadership in Crisis: Alfie's leadership shines in times of crisis. In 2021 alone, she took charge of the investigations of three mass shootings in Indianapolis, including the tragic incident at the Fed Ex Facility on April 15th, where 8 lives were lost. Alfie's expertise in managing such critical situations demonstrates her resilience and dedication to public safety. She understands the human impact of these events and strives to bring justice and closure to affected families.

Community Engagement: Beyond her role as Chief Deputy Coroner, Alfie actively engages with the community. She serves on the board of directors for Overdose Lifeline, Mental Health America, Indianapolis, and the International Association of Coroners and Medical Examiners. Alfie's commitment to mental health and family advocacy and overdose prevention reflects her holistic approach to community well-being. Her commitment to community has earned her awards for her dedication. Most notably, she was awarded the 2021-2022 Citizen of the Year award from the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Zeta Phi Chapter, for her unique contributions to humanity and for her outstanding contributions to the welfare of mankind.

Educator and Mentor: As an adjunct faculty member at Indiana University, Alfie is committed to nurturing the next generation of professionals in the field forensic science. Her dedication to education extends to coordinating trainings and developing policies and procedures within the Coroner’s Office, ensuring that the team remains at the forefront of advancements in death investigations and forensic science. Alfie serves as a Subject Matter Expert in her field, providing advice, recommendations, and best practices at the state and national level. Additionally, Alfie expands education into community engagement activities. She provides education to various community organizations to help them understand, what the Coroner’s Office does, the important role in public safety, and partnerships to prevent sudden and unexpected deaths.
